O for their strength in your tottering ego. Shoring your weakened and uprooted life. Would that their upwardness carry you with them Sky-held while crossing the ranges of strife. O for the freedom of swift rushing rivers, Unbalked by treacherous currents below. Over, and under, and swirling round boulders, Nothing impedes them nor hinders their flow. Would that these rivers be found in your choices, (wavering, pitiful half-born desires). Would that their steady and constant renewing Give you the onwardness purpose inspires. Listen ! A warbling and wakening prelude. Echo of birdsong at break of the day Filling the silence of Night in retreating, Bringing the song of the season to stay. O that the dirge from the depths of your mourning Learn of the sweetness of new-mastered Song. Change the sad air of your soft tuneless weeping Into a Melody Hope can make strong. Nature has captured the shades of the Rainbow. Painted them all through a myriad flowers, Blending with sureness a scented aroma Into the mem'ry of lingering hours. Would that your colourless empty existence Blaze even once with a brilliance of hue.
