One Small Tear

One small tear
holding wells of memory
escaping down the cheek
to be punished

who knows of the swell
of inner oceans
tears upon tears in rolling
tides
kept in check, forbidden
to spill over

one small but costly tear
representing
but a tiny part of
unseen iceberg formed by
frozen needs

above the surface
cold beauty cuts the
skies' horizon dazzling
eyes that see
only ice walls
inacccessible
in their isolation

one small tear
if allowed escape might
start a melting
of the inner oceans
frozen,
sunk for miles so
FAR beneath the
surface

Ah, but I must keep
that one small tear
the only symbol
of my need
my pain
my hidden self
and longing

one small tear between
the part of me
I show
and the enormity
of fathoms
spreading
immeasurably
in breadth and depths
below

frozen
and
unseen
