![]() We think this is a picture of one of the Sylphedes in her light cocoon. We think it would be wonderful to be able to fly. We would sprinkle Love and Happiness on everyone. Abram, Penny, Peter, Daisy, Chance, Wanda, Georgy, Lucky, Johnny, Peanut, Rocky, Titus, Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire, Topaz, and Little Gem. Sprinkling love and happiness on you Softly Heidi was a good friend of Porky's and they often played together with Dress but Snorkel thought it beneath him to play pretend games because he didn't have too much of an imagination and this is what they loved to do best. Snorkel was very good at other things and he really liked Heidi a LOT so there were no bad feelings when they played together without him. He had friends he used to like to go with racing their bicycles down the country lanes and sometimes through the fields - that is, if the farmers didn't see them ! One afternoon when school was out and everyone had scattered to go home, Heidi caught up with Porky and his friends and asked them if they'd like to go to the woods and they would play there. Snorkel asked if they going to play a pretend game because if they were he would do something else. Dress loved to get in on the pretend games that always somehow seemed REAL, and her eyes lit up. "Now THAT's a good idea!" she cried, "Let's go to our favorite spot in the woods and see what happens". Heidi and Porky were immediately enthusiastic but Snorkel grinned at them, " You guys get going. I'll go over to Mike's and see if he wants to go biking". He sauntered off whistling and Porky, Dress and Heidi took off for Felton Woods that lay to the north in the direction of Sunnyvale. As they entered the trees and green bushes growing around them, the air became cooler and the youngsters were glad for the shade from the hot sun though it still managed to filter through the leaves. Quite a ways into the woods they came into a fairly large clearing that was covered with grass and the young ones loved to come here because no one else ever came and they could play and do whatever they liked and never be disturbed. They sat on a grassy patch and Heidi asked, "What shall we do today?" Porky was about to open his mouth when there was a rustling in the trees behind them and out stepped a beautiful creature dressed in a pale blue gossamer dress that seemed to shine as though light was shining clear through her. She had long golden hair with a wreath of woodland flowers woven together like a tiara on her head, (that's like a narrow crown), and her eyes were a forget-me-not blue. What seemed to them as the most beautiful part of her were the two delicate, transparant wings rising from her shoulders that were as finely patterned as a spring leaf showing all its veins, only her wings were all pastel shades catching the sunlight in ever changing colors. She smiled at their amazement and said in a lilting voice that was so soft and musical they seemed to see music in the air like a stream of color dancing in the breeze. "My name is Faerie, and Felton Woods is my home. I have watched you come here from time to time and seen you play pretend games running over the grass and through the trees, or sitting in this clearing telling stories to eachother. My people are the Wood Dwellers who cannot usually be seen by people like yourselves, but our young ones have watched you too and want to get to know you and play with you today. Your ways are strange to us because you cannot fly and stay earthbound except when you climb up into the trees. But even there you do not use the breezes to travel, or the birds to show you how to fly among the clouds. We are the Sylphedes who live to help the helpless. We know you all have hearts that understand sometimes children cannot help themselves. Later today some of us will be flying to Trelawny for we have seen some children there who need our special kind of help. I would ask if you would like to meet some of the young ones of my people and play with them ? Perhaps, when you have seen a little of our ways you might like to come with us to the place called Trelawny?" The three friends were so excited they were afraid they would frighten Faerie away if they yelled with delight so Heidi answered her and said as softly as she could, " We would LOVE to meet the Sylphedes. Would you show us how to fly ? And can we see where you live ?" Faerie smiled and nodded, then she gave a high sweet trilling note that echoed through the clearing and the three friends looked up to see eight pairs of bright inquisitive eyes looking at them from the branches of a couple of trees to their left. The little Sylphedes were dressed in green. Some were small boys in forest green tunics that had dark brown belts around the waist and little pointed yellow caps with a brown bobble at the tip that made them hang down at the back or to the side. The little girl Sylphedes wore gossamer dresses like Faerie's but of different colors, red, green, blue, yellow and lavender. They looked so dainty and graceful. All of them had transparent winges that rose from the back of their shoulders like the wings of a dragonfly, and the sun filtering through the leaves made them shimmer, casting tiny drops of rainbow colors as they moved. Shyly, one by one they flew gently down to where Heidi and the others were sitting. They were about the same height as Porky, ( though not as plump!) some a little taller and some slightly shorter, and they introduced themsleves from the oldest to the youngest. They were Trin, Kail, Sorboo, Levit, Pinna, Sheevi, Wibbell and Flin. There was a blur of wings as they darted round the three friends and it felt like a soft feather brushing against their cheeks as they examined these strangers in their Wood. They were especially fascinated with Porky, and Levit even reached out his hand to touch Porky's tail. "What do you DO with this? " he asked. Porky who was pink skinned anyway, turned pinker. " Er - my tail?" he quivered, " I don't DO anything with it. It's just THERE. Sometimes when I'm excited it wiggles. Maybe you saw it wiggle a few minutes ago when we heard you all wanted to play with us and we could maybe see where you live ? I THINK it wiggled then." The Sylphedes had never seen a pig who talked like humans did and walked on two feet - actually, they had never seen a pig before at all, close up that is, and the little girl Sylphedes fluttered their wings at him and he turned pinker still. Kail and Pinna who were girl Sylphedes and about Heidi and Dress's height promised to teach them how to fly and Trin who was a boy Sylphede and seemed to be the oldest, said he would be Porky's companion and teach him anything he needed to know about traveling as they traveled. "We don't have ages, like you do," Trin told them, " We simply grow till it's time to stop and then we stay like we are till the stars gather us into Night and we become part of the Milky Way". Faerie reminded them that they had a mission soon and if they were going to show Heidi and her friends around they had better start doing it. What a wonderful time they had ! Their new friends fitted them each with a pair of wings and they wondered how such delicate things could possibly hold and keep them in the air. To their surprise, once they got the hang of it they found how easy it was to float and glide and swoop and dive through the trees, round the bushes, over the Wood and way up into the sky. The more they practiced the easier it was and soon they weren't concentrating on trying to stay in the air but noticing the things around them instead. Porky was kind of nervous to start with - after all, pigs weren't meant to mix with birds usually, and certainly not on a tree top ! Heidi and Dress loved the free feeling of simply floating wherever they wished and they taught the Sylphedes how to play Hide-and-Seek. That was GREAT fun - darting behind bushes and swooping away out of sight, up and down, and of course, it was a lot harder to actually CATCH someone when they could just fly off! Out of breath after a while, they settled down in the clearing again and sat on the grass. Hedi, Dress and Porky had to get used to folding their wings when they were sitting and not get them snagged on a branch or twig, but they soon adjusted. "Where do you sleep?" Asked Heidi turning to Sorboo. "We are Wood dwellers," she replied, "We do not need houses like you do. When night comes we can shield ourselves with light that wraps round us like a cloak and we usually have our own tree where we spend the dark hours". Heidi and the others tried to picture this and thought how beautiful the Wood must look at Night with so many bundles of soft light glowing from the trees in the darkness whereever there was a Sylphede. Although none of them voiced it out loud they thought they would ask eachother later if some night they could try to get back to Felton Wood after dark just to see if they could see their new friends in their Light Cocoons. While they exchanged the differences in how they lived their lives Faerie interrupted their conversation by coming up and reminding them of the mission in Trelawny. "It's time to go" she told them, "If you three wish to come with us you are very welcome" she added turning to Porky and the others. "Yes, PLEASE," cried Heidi, " what will we be doing ?" The other young Sylphedes gathered closer so they could hear what Faerie had to say and she told them why they were needed in Trelawny that afternoon. Another older Sylphede, named Dashon had been flying over Trelwany that morning when he noticed a very distraught mother come running out of a store frantically calling for her children who seemed to have disappeared. Nobody could help her as nobody had noticed anything or seen the children. Since there was nothing he could do right then he flew back to Felton Wood to tell Faerie and see if they could work a mission and find the children for the mother. She had felt it best to wait till later in the day when there would be fewer people on the streets and lights would be on in houses so they would have a better chance of seeing into rooms in case the children had wandered into someone's home. Porky and the others were concerned about their parents and that they would really worry if they didn't get home in time for supper and if they were out after dark, but Faerie told them not to worry. "On our way to Trelawny we can stop by your homes and sprinkle some ' No need to worry', and 'All is well', over your folks and they wil not even be aware of time or that you are gone or when you return." " What is sprinkling? " asked Dress She was told that every Sylphede had the power to sprinkle good feelings and good thoughts on, or into, the minds or whoever or whatever they wished. Sometimes they sprinkled animals if that was what was needed, or grownups, or children - wherever something or someone could not help themselves then they sprinkled what would help them. "How do you sprinkle?" asked Porky. Little Flin who was the youngest of their new friends, tugged at Faeriie's gown and said, "Why don't we sprinkle Heidi and show them what we do?" Faerie smiled at her and said, "That's a good idea. Heidi, let's imagine you need to be able to find your way around Trelawny without getting lost. Or do you KNOW that City?" " Oh no", replied Heidi," I don't know it at ALL and it would be great to fly around and know exactly where I am". " I want to sprinkle her" cried Flin, fluttering up and down, " I thought of it first". " That's just fine," Faerie told her, " Go right ahead and sprinkle her with 'Knowledge of Trelawny' ". So Heidi remained sitting on the grass and Flin flew up and hovered over her and waved her little hands over her like she was sowing seeds on the lawn and they could see thousands of specks like gold dust shower over Heidi whose eyes opened wide as she exclaimed, " I can SEE all the streets of Trelawny right NOW ! I will never get lost there. How long will I keep this knowledge, Flin?" Flin told her it would last only as long as the mission so that later if she should return to Telawny some other time she would not know where the streets were or anything else about the city. Having seen how the sprinkles worked Porky and his friends couldn't wait to get going to see if they would really and truly work on their parents and they could stay out after dark!. Faerie was very firm about not having the smaller ones along so she, Trin, Kail, Sorboo and Levit were allowed on the mission and the eight of them rose up in a little group and flew towards Heidi's house which was the closest. As they arrived over the house, and by now daylight was fading, Heidi's folks were sitting in the living room, each reading a part of the newspaper. Faeriei gently touched Heidi on the arm and said, " I think the sprinkle would be even stronger coming fom you and you have seen how it is done. When you wear Sylphede wings you have the power to srpinkle as we do. Go ahead, and it will work." Heidi asked, " Can they see us ?" Sorboo answered her, " No, noone can see us when we are flying - the wings make us invisible to human eyes. They also let us enter buildings even when the doors are locked or the windows are shut." So Heidi found she could go into the living room and she hovered first over her mother and sprinkled 'No need to worrry', and 'All is well', and then did the same to her father. They watched them relax and settle deeper into their chairs as if they hadn't a care in the world. "When you get home tonight, " Levit told her, " they will not be aware of time and think you have just come back from your usual play time with your friends". Then they all flew on to Porky and Dress's homes. Porky sprinkled his family and Dress sprinkled hers and they all relaxed more and more. Dress's folks were in front of the TV and Snorkel was still out with Mike. The Laytons were also reading the newspaper and Pork's brothers and sister were playing Monopoly that didn't seem it would end for a long while yet. By the time they all reached Trelawny it was dark and homes were lit up, people were eating supper or watching TV and some people were still coming home from work, walking or driving. Porky ssid that since Deshon had not seen the children at all, maybe they should go to the store where he saw the mother so distressed and perhaps someone could sprinkle, 'Recognition' over one of them and whoever it was might know which road or street the children had gone down. They looked at Porky in astonishment. "Porky," said Heidi, " That's a BRILLIANT idea", and Porky turned bright pink again in embarrassment "Just a thought". he mumbled. Deshon had told Faerie the store where he had seen the mother so they flew to Fred Meyers, a large department store. They landed in the big parking lot and Kail asked if she could be sprinkled with 'Recognition', and so she was. As the gold dust settled over her she immediately turned to the main street in an easterly direction and started flying towards it. The others rose to follow her and she led them to a sprawling residential area not too far away where the houses had their own huge gardens and some even had a private swimming pool. By this time is was completely dark and as the little group flew along the streets if anyone had looked up they might have captured a quick glimpse of rainbow specks in the night sky but they would not have seen any bodies and they would not have believed they were seeing a flying pig and two young girls flying in the middle of the Sylphedes! Kail hovered over a large house that stood back from the street and had beautiful silk smooth green lawns either side of a driveway leading to an oak door which opened onto a veranda going the width of the front of the house. " This is where the children came," Kail said, "but I don't know why they came or if they are inside the house". :Well, we can go inside and look, can't we?". said Heidi. So they entered the big house and found two men and a woman seated at a long dining table covered with gleaming silverware, pretty china plates and dishes of delicious smelling food on large platters. The group of visitors looking longingly at the food, though the Sylphedes were more curious than hungry because it was not what they would eat, and they smiled at Porky who flew so low to the table he almost put his snout into the bowl of mashed potatoes one of the men had lifted just he descended. " Come on, Porky," scolded Dress, " No time for eating now we need to find the children, their poor mother is frantic about them I am sure. It's been HOURS since they got lost". With this, they flitted from room to room but no sign of any children. They were about to give up when they heard shrill yipping outside the living room window and when they flew outside to see where it came from, they saw two toddlers, a boy about five and a girl about four, running after a small golden labrador puppy. He was the sweetest, cuddliest looking little fella, romping playfully around the house and down the drive way. " There's Champ, the little rascal, " cried the woman, " he must have got out of his kennel again. But WHO are those children ?" " You, boy, what are you doing in our garden ?" called one of the men as he stepped out onto the veranda. The boy and girl looked at him and started to run down the drive to the street. As they ran the little puppy followed them rushing at their heels them darting away and coming back to play, but the children ran as fast as they could and pretty soon they ran into what looked like an empty house quite a long way down the road. Porky, Dress, Heidi and the Sylphedes flew quickly after the youngsters and the dog but not quickly enough to see which house they had run into. The reason being that as they passed through the dining room, Porky HAD to stop and pick up a chicken drumstick, and Levit simply HAD to taste a wee bite of mashed potatoes to see what it was like. This set them back long enough for the three fleeing figures to be out of sight by the time they reached the end of the driveway. "Can someone sprinkle me with 'EXTRA keen hearing'?" asked Dress, " 'cos then perhaps I will be able to hear them if we fly close to the houses on this street. We can know if anyone inside is crying or not". " Great idea," said Trin " I'll sprinkle you, Dress" and proceded to do just that. They flew really close to the houses going up one side first rather than to keep criss- crossing back and forth because there were a LOT of houses and it was a LONG street. There were some false alarms when Porky heard some crying that turned out to be a little boy who had been naughty and was getting a spanking from his mom, and then Heidi heard a small girl sobbing and when they flew into the house they saw she had droped a china doll and it had broken. In another home, a baby was crying because it was hungry. "We can't stop right now," said Faerie when Heidi and the others wanted to help them, "maybe we'll have time to drop in again and see if we can do anything for these children on our way home, but right now it's really important that we find the little boy and girl and the puppy". So they flew on and Dress whispered, " I hear whimpers like someone is scared and tired". They were outside a darkened house that had no lights shining in any room, but when they got up really close they all heard sounds coming from a room upstairs at the back of the house. "Good thing you asked for really KEEN hearing, Dress," said Sorboo, "we'd NEVER have heard them from the front of the house and we'd have flown right by." They quickly flew inside and in one bedroom they found the little boy and his sister huddled on a bed crying while the puppy wagged his tail and pushed his cold wet nose into their faces trying to lick their tears. " Is the puppy excited, Porky?" asked Levit, " He's wiggling his tail" Pooh, smiled sheepishly, " Well, he's WAGGING his tail, which is a bit different from WIGGLING a tail. Dogs wag their tail when they're happy, or when they love their master, or like here, I think he wants the children to know he's their friend and he's sorry they are crying and doesn't want them to be afraid". The Sylphedes then made it so the children could see them all and they stopped crying and stared with open mouths at the little group. Two children, a pig and five other creaures ALL with wings. " Who are YOU?" gasped the little boy and his sister tried to hide behind him. Faerie sprinkled them both with, 'Calm' and 'Trust' and 'All is well', so they were then happy to see their rescuers and as Faerie was asking them where their home was, Porky said, " I can hear someone coming down the street in a big hurry and I think it's that man from the other house". "Can't we give them wings?" cried Heidi, "like you gave to us" Faerie said she thought that was possible because of the urgent situation and the little boy and girl then found they had wings on their back and were so excited they tried to fly before being told how. The little girl whose name was Glenna, flew straight into the headboard of the bed, and her brother, Kevin, smacked into the bedroom door but they were not hurt so no harm was done. Everyone laughed and they quickly showed them how to fly. They heard footsteps running up to the front door and a man's voice shouting " Champ,Champ, you there, boy, come here. Come on, where are you, you little rascal?" The puppy ran to the door but it was shut and as they heard the man thumping up the stairs Trin and Porky went either side of Kevin and flew with him through the window while Sorboo and Kail took Glenna and all of them flew out and up just as they heard the bedroom door open and the man exclaim, " There you are, you rascal puppy. What are we going to do with you and how on earth did you get into this room and the door get shut ?" He looked around but saw no one. Walking over to the window which was closed he looked out but could see nothing. He thought he saw some rainbow specks in the sky but dismissed it as having drunk too much wine at supper time. When Heidi heard where the children lived she was SO happy they had spirnkled her with knowledge so she knew exactly where they lived and where the street was. They landed outside the front door of the children's home and their wings were removed. Then they watched as the little ones called for their Mommy. The door flew open and they caught a glimpse of the phone dangling by its cord on the wall where the distraught woman had been calling to see if there was any news of her lost children. When she saw them she cried for joy and tears of happiness ran down her cheeks as she held them tightly in a huge bear hug. When she asked them where they had been and how they came home, all they could say was they had followed a cute and cuddly puppy to its house and played with it, and them some other children had brought them home. They didn't tell her they had flown with real wings because they didn't think she would believe them. They were all just happy to be together again. As for Porky and his friends and the Sylphedes, on their way home they reached the house where the little baby had been crying and sprinkled 'Understanding' on its mother who immediately went out to get the bottle and started to feed it. They sprinkled 'Comfort' on the little girl whose doll had been broken and sprinkled, 'Kindness' on her mother who told her she would replace it with another doll or another toy if she wanted something different. This made her tears dry up right away! When they reached the house where the boy had received a spanking from his dad, they sprinkled, 'Forget', over both of them and the father allowed his son to stay up and watch Treasure Island which was showing on TV that evening. By now it was really dark and by the time they returned to Krumble, Faerie said they needed to say goodbye and thanked the three friends for coming and helping to make the mission a success. It was quite a sad parting and now they had no wings and wondered if they would ever see Faerie and the other Sylphedes again. They could hardly believe that when they got to their respective homes and went inside, their parents said never a word about being late or it being dark. Later that night, Heidi called Dress and Porky and they all asked their parents if they could go out again for just a short while, just to do something, and they'd be right back. Since their folks were told who each of them would be with and knew they did not get into trouble with these particular friends they allowed them to go, saying, " Alright, but you come right back as SOON as you've done whatever it is". They hurried off to Felton Wood to see if they could see their friends and sure enough, as they entered the Wood they looked up into the trees and glowing all over the place were tiny little bundles of soft Light nestled in the twigs and branches and they knew that in each one, a Sylphede lay warm and sleeping. They wondered in which softly shimmering bundle lay Faerie, and which held Trin, Kail, Sorbee, Levit, Pinna, Sheevi, Wibbell and Flin. They did know that they would not see the Light cocoons again because this was their reward for helping with the mission, but they knew they would never forget their adventure and whenever they played in the clearing again, or heard about children or animals who couldn't help themselves, that even if they couldn't really fly and come to the rescue, they COULD, in their thoughts, sprinkle a little boy, a little girl or a small animal, like puppy Champ, with whatever would make them feel better. If they thought really, really hard, as they sprinkled in their mind, they could take away the sadness or the scary feeling and change it into 'it's going to be alright', and 'try not to worry' and 'you CAN do it', 'you CAN win'. There are hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of different kinds of sprinkles - see how many you can come up with when you see someone needing a one. *********************************** Goessoftly Retired Therapist www.goessoftlyishere.com (No Copies Allowed) | PIGMUS STORY 1.
